• Practice makes perfect – thetrilife.com Castle Preparation Days

TrainingFor many people entering the Sprint, Sprint Plus and Olympic distance races this is their first triathlon. We know it can be daunting – where do you go and what do you do? What if you have never swum in open water before?

We all like to be prepared – this improves our confidence and confidence improves our performance. This is why thetrilife.com com will be offering Castle Preparation Days at Cholmondeley Castle, Castle Howard and Hever Castle. In convenient 3 hour sessions our world class coaches will help you prepare for your event by teaching you new skills and answering all of your questions.

    The sessions will include:

    • Open water swim session – perfect if this is your first time open water swimming. You will get used to swimming in a wetsuit as well as learning about course sighting, turning and how to deal with a mass start!
    • Transition skills – what do you do in transition? You will learn how you should layout your kit, how to prepare your bike, how to do things quickly and the rules that you need to know. Our coaches will have you running with your bike like a pro!
    • And finally – a race day walk through. Get all your questions answered from “what time do I need to be at the venue” to “where is the finish line” and everything in between.
    • After the session there will be an opportunity to join a ride around the bike course.

    And not forgetting the juniors!

Starting an open water triathlon with confidence is key for every competitor, but children particularly like to know what to expect and feel adequately prepared. This is a great opportunity for young athletes who have not swum in open water before or are apprehensive about the transition and would like to build confidence and technique before the race.

Following on from the great success of our junior open water sessions and transitions sessions last year, we are now holding these at each of our Castle Preparation Days for 2015.

These are 30 min sessions designed for 8-16 year olds.

Price: £15.00 for one session (swimming OR transition) or £25 for both sessions (swimming AND transition).

There are a limited number of places available.

Lots more information is on the Castle Triathlon Series website.

Here is what one junior athletes thought of last years sessions at Hever Castle.

“The coldness of the water, the fact it was so hard to see underwater compared with a pool, and so hard to swim in a straight line, were all things I learnt and will help me with my first triathlon.”
