    Why do this drill?

Front sculling is used to improve the catch phase of your stroke. You will develop a feel for the water as you become aware of the pressure of the water against your fingers during the drill.

    How to do this drill

Start in a streamlined position with both arms extended in front of you. Use a gentle flutter kick to maintain a balanced body position. Now, drop your fingertips to around 45 degrees from the horizontal. With your fingertips in this position move both hands out and in a continuous motion. Imagine that you are wiping clean the inside surface of a small bowl. Arms should remain extended and shoulder width apart throughout the drill.
