Despite being in the midst of IM preparation Claire Hebblethwaite was still able to claim 2nd in her age group at the Ellesmere Triathlon in 2.25.52. This was easily good enough to book Claire a ticket to Beijing for the World Age Group Champs. Unfortunately the Worlds is the week before Challenge Henley which is Claire’s big race of the year, so Claire wont be able to go. Never the less she was still chuffed with her performance, and so are we!
Andrew chuffed at Blenheim
Andrew Gordon continued his good start to the season with a 1.21.46 at the Blenheim triathlon. With ever increasing running miles he is only going to get quicker as the year goes on.
Mike blitzes in Barcelona
Mike Hannay opened up his long distance account at the Challenge Barcelona Half IM. On a hot day and despite ‘falling asleep on the run’ he recorded 5.05 for 9th his age grp thus qualifying for the World Long Distance Champs! Good work! Unfortunately given the short window between the Worlds and Roth it looks like Mike will have to decline his spot.
Sophie smashes the Time Trials
Sophie Rees has posted some great times in recent time trials. She rode a stunning 2.21 over 50 and recorded an eqaully impressive 5.03 in the Anfield 100mile despite driving rain and coming off at 50 miles
Mike And Andrew do well at Dorney
Mike Hannay and Andrew Gordon both performed well in poor conditions at Dorney in their first tri’s of the season. Mike had a bad start in T1 getting his zip jammed but went to post the 3rd fastest bike and run for 8th overall in 1.16.10 in the 50-54 age grp. Andrew coming back from a run injury had a great start his 2011 campaign with 14th in his age group finishing in 1.20.40.
Claire gets 5th
Claire Hebblethwaite battled strong winds, lashing rain and a ridiculous start time of 5.15am(!) to finish 5th in her age group and 12th overall at the Swashbuckler Half IM in a time of 5.13.25.
Tragedy at the Cape Argus
Olivia Bryant was brought down in a pile up during the Cape Argus, the world’s largest mass participation bike ride. On for a great time of just over 3hrs in hilly the 109km event she was totally gutted to find all the spokes ripped out of her back wheel following the crash within 4km of the finish! Despite this she was chuffed to bits with a ride that would have put her only around 10min behind the female winner.
Andrew gets down and dirty!
Andrew Gordon opened his account for the season with a fine 47th in the Brutal 10k in Hampshire. Which according to Andrew did ‘exactly what it does on the tin…BRUTAL! No flat road, just bloody huge hills, scary decents, rivers, heath and dense forest!’ Loving your work!
Mike beats the Ballbuster
Mike Hannay turned in good performance with a 4th in his age group at the arduous Ballbuster Duathlon. Despite calf cramps on the bike and second run Mike was able to stay strong to the finish beating taking the fifth place athlete in the closing stages. That said there was rumour he enjoyed a fine cup of darjeeling in T1 with a 4min plus transition! You cant rush a good thing!
Sophie races Helsby Half
Sophie Rees ran a solid 1.41.02 at the Helsby Half Marathon in her first competitive outing of the season, well done Sophie!
Claire takes silver on the country
Despite missing the first race Claire Hebblethwaite took a great silver medal in the 5 race Herefordshire Cross Country League in the Senior Womens Category with some consistent performances. She also won the County Championships back in January too, and has even been heard confessing to actually starting to enjoy such races!
