Why do this drill?
Finishing drill is used to improve the push phase of your stroke. Through the push phase you should flex the wrist so that the hand can continue pressing water right back through to the end of the stroke. The finishing drill will encourage this and will help to correct a push phase that is soft or too short.
How to do this drill
As you finish your stroke, continue with the backwards movement of the hand and forearm so that, with a straight arm, your hand exits the water with your palm more or less facing the ceiling. Hold this position above the water for a second before beginning the recovery phase of the stroke.
